smitty777 writes “Wired magazine reports on a new nanoviewing lens that is capable of viewing objects less than 100 nm across. Rather than attempting to use a ‘perfect’ lens, this technology uses a porous surface that actually scatters the light. By measuring how it is scattered and setting up lasers to compensate, they’re able to [...]

Conclusions: Down-regulation of TF using siRNA could provide a potential approach for gene therapy against lung adenocarcinoma, and the antitumor effects may be associated with inhibition of Erk MAPK, PI3K/Akt pathways. (Source: BioMed Central)
To the Editor: We read with interest the article by Du et al. . They determined whether anti-transforming-growth-factor-? (TGF-?) intervention could halt the progression of radiation-induced-liver-fibrosis in a rat model. The authors conclude that TGF-? plays a critical role in the progression of radiation-induced liver fibrosis and that anti-TGF-? intervention ameliorates established liver fibrosis. AbstractB cells have been used as tolerogenic APCs for nearly two decades. However, the ability to transduce B cells for use in gene therapy has been hampered by the low efficiency of transduction of resting B cells. This has been partially overcome by mitogenic activation of these cells, a factor that is not without risks [...]

We have developed induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from a patient with X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (X-CGD), a defect of neutrophil microbicidal reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation resulting from gp91phox deficiency. We demonstrated that mature neutrophils differentiated from X-CGD iPSCs lack ROS production, reproducing the pathognomonic CGD cellular phenotype. Targeted gene transfer into iPSCs, with [...]
